Demand Side Management in Power Sector

EVENT DESCRIPTION

A technical seminar on “Demand Side Management in Power Sector” was held on October 24, Sunday, 2010 at 5:00 PM jointly organized by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter. Engr. AHM Mohiuddin, Manager, DPDC and Chair, IEEE PES Bangladesh Chapter was present as the key-note speaker of the seminar. A large of number of students and faculty members as well as IEEE members gathered at Room # 6003 of Banani Campus of Presidency University to attend the seminar.

At first, Mr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE and Secretary, IEEE Bangladesh Section, presented the speaker before the audiences. Then the speaker of the seminar explained power generation, transmission and distribution systems briefly. Then he explained the concept of demand side management. He emphasizes the needs of customer awareness to save the power and energy by using energy efficient electric appliances and low power devices. He also stressed the needs of using renewable energy sources to save power and thus to manage the present power crisis in Bangladesh. There was a lively question and answer session followed by the seminar in which both students and faculty members participated with the seminar speaker. In this session, the discussants mainly tried to find a solution to over come the present power crisis in Bangladesh. Finally, Dr. Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Professor and Head of ECE Department gave the concluding speech and thanks to all.
